When we focus on our accumulated “wealth,” or lack of it; do we notice the natural treasures all around us? As I was walking out the door to write this post, my sweet wife’s kiss fresh upon my lips, I was awestricken by the natural beauty of the moment. What more could a person ask for? Material things aside, the touch of a gentle caress, the thundering waves, cool, fragrant sea breezes, and salty spray; the earthy musk of morning; the choirs of feathered angels mellifluously summoning the dawn; the rich perfumes of ixora, plumeria, and jasmine; the light of the early morning sun; the awareness of it all; and the inner things to which they point; are jewels to be treasured above all else. Spiritual attainments such as non-resistance, non-judgement, and non-attachment; due to the higher consciousness created by them, renders such natural treasures, and the inner jewels they refer to; bright and clear. When was the last time you noticed, really noticed, that pair of footprints in the sand; and then the tears of joy embellishing your glow? This reminds me of a song I wrote and recorded entitled Hanalei Pier which paints acoustic watercolors that, on a material world level, reflect the poetic splendor of love and magic; and on a spiritual level suggest the magnificence of love and light.
